Senior for Seniors Adoption Program
Humane Society of Sarasota County’s Seniors for Seniors Program was developed to help older adults enjoy pet companionship while providing a loving home to an animal in need. The program places senior cats and dogs (ages 7+) into permanent homes with older adults who are age 65 or older.
HSSC’s client experience team will help you select a companion that fits with your home and lifestyle. Your adoption fee will be waived thanks to a generous grant provided by the Wenk Family Charitable Foundation.
Benefits of Adopting a Senior Pet
- Senior pets are often already trained, gentler, and calmer.
- They are ideally suited to an older adult’s quieter lifestyle.
- Cats and dogs provide companionship and opportunities for interaction with others.
- Research shows companion animals can improve physical and mental health by lowering blood pressure and stress levels. They can also reduce feelings of depression or loneliness.
