    HSSC is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. We rely solely on contributions from individuals, organizations, and corporations. HSSC receives no federal funding, nor are we funded by any national humane organization.

    HSSC is committed to transparency and accountability. We are audited annually by an outside firm, and our latest Form 990 and audited financial statements are available to the public. We maintain good standing with independent charity reviews, and we have a prestigious 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator.

    Charity Navigator

    HSSC's strong financial health and ongoing accountability and transparency has earned a Four-Star Rating from Charity Navigator. This rating, which is the highest rating an organization can achieve, designates HSSC as an official "Give with Confidence" charity, indicating that HSSC is using its donations effectively based on Charity Navigator's criteria. Charity Navigator is America's largest and most-utilized independent charity evaluator. HSSC adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes our mission in a fiscally responsible way.

    HSSC is proud to have earned the Platinum Seal of Transparency from Candid (GuideStar), the world’s largest source of nonprofit information. We voluntarily display quantitative metrics to represent how hard HSSC is working toward achieving our mission. We’re proud to use Candid Platinum to share our full and complete story with the world. To reach the Platinum level, we provide basic contact and organizational information; in-depth financial information; quantitative information about goals, strategies, and progress toward our mission.

    The Giving Partner

    HSSC maintains a “Reviewed” profile on The Giving Partner, which means we regularly provide in-depth information about HSSC’s community impact, financials, leadership, and goals. A “Reviewed” profile does not mean HSSC is “endorsed” by local foundations. The Community Foundation of Sarasota County provides administrative support for The Giving Partner as a service to donors, funders, and the community.
