Statewide MEGA Adoption Event a Success
We are still reeling from the wild success of Florida's first statewide adoption event held June 23-25, 2023 and presented by Petco Love with support from BOBS from Skechers™. A total of 1,928 dogs and cats found new, loving homes across the state!
Thanks to the overwhelming support of our community, HSSC had a record adoption weekend, placing 79 dogs and cats over three days.
On Saturday, June 24, we broke our all-time adoption record with 34 dogs and cats going home. And we were open on Sunday for the first time in years, resulting in 26 adoptions. At the end of the weekend, we celebrated row after row of empty kennels. Sometimes silence is the best sound on earth.
The MEGA Adoption Event was facilitated by the Florida Leaders in Lifesaving program, of which HSSC is a proud steering committee member. Nearly 50 animal shelters across Florida participated in the MEGA Adoption Event, which included three regional events and dozens of Petco stores.
This is the type of collaborative work that is desperately needed to increase lifesaving of cats and dogs in Florida. Currently, Florida is the 4th worst state in the nation for saving animals in our shelters.
