Canned Dog Food Needed This is a request for donations of canned dog food. We are stocked with dry but we are almost out of canned. We have a couple of dogs that could stand to put on a pound or two and canned food would really help. The brand doesn’t matter. Any donation would be appreciated.   HUMANE SOCIETY OF SARASOTA COUNTY EARNS HIGHEST RATING FOR FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT The Humane Society of Sarasota County, Inc. has received the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities. Receiving four out of a possible four stars indicates that the Humane Society of Sarasota County excels, as compared to other charities nationwide, in successfully managing its finances in an efficient and effective manner. According to Charity Navigator, receiving a four-star rating "is an exceptional feat (which) differentiates the Humane Society of Sarasota County from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust." "We are honored to receive Charity Navigator's highest rating," said Humane Society of Sarasota County Executive Director Deborah Robbins Millman. "The Humane Society of Sarasota County works hard to shelter this area's abandoned pets and offer many community services, and we take seriously the fiscal responsibility we have to the donors who make our efforts possible. We rely on donations, bequests and sponsorships, and we are pleased that our donors have this added reassurance that the money they provide to us is used in the most responsible way." Charity Navigator (www.charitynavigator.org) evaluates more than 5,000 charities; only about one-quarter of them receive the highest possible rating. HSSC is one of only three animal welfare agencies in Florida and one of just 82 such agencies nationwide to hold the four-star designation. 	"The Humane Society of Sarasota County relies on community funding to pursue its mission of promoting responsible pet ownership and securing permanent homes for all adoptable animals. HSSC provides abandoned pets with compassionate care and shelter, offers pet adoptions, humane education, affordable spay/neuter services, and programs for children, seniors and those with special needs." In addition to providing humane education programs for all ages, our facility annually reunites dozens of lost pets with their owners and takes in about 4,000 abandoned animals in need of shelter, food, water, and homes. Our adoption program is committed to finding not only homes for these wayward pets, but homes that will provide them with the love and care that they so desperately need. Please, read on and learn what is being done to improve the lives and futures of these animals in need... One thing that everyone knows us for is the adoption of animals. Come visit us and bring home the pet of your choice from the many we have here at the shelter. The adoption fee includes the cost of spaying or neutering your pet, and a rabies vaccination. HSSC members and previous adopters receive a $10.00 discount on new adoptions.
